Hölle!

Hell, according to Dante, consists of three sets of three circles. In this season, we extend an invitation to our audiences to come on three musical adventures in the deepest room of the MusikTheater an der Wien.

Our return to the Theater an der Wien on Linke Wienzeile means the theatre basement, known as the Hölle (hell) is again available for performances. At the start of the 20th century, the Hölle was one of the most famous cabaret venues in the German-speaking world. Artists including Fritz Grünbaum, Karl Farkas and Hans Moser appeared here, and operettas for the variety stage were written by composers such as Franz Lehár and Robert Stolz. In the series “Hölle!” we present artists with close ties to the MusikTheater an der Wien who will have the opportunity to present very different aspects of their work. Lutenist David Bergmüller sets the ball rolling together with clarinettist David Orlowsky. They are followed by the director Nikolaus Habjan who appears here as a virtuoso whistler. To conclude, things get really hellish in the Hölle with a performance by the Trio Infernal.
